CONSOLIDATED LEARNING SERVICES

Nurse Refresher Course

Dear Nurses:  This course is one of many options available to reactivate/refresher your license.  It is not an option that is suitable for every person.  Our price is the lowest of the other courses because of how the course operates.  The quality of the materials is equal to if not superior to other courses.  However, there is no RN available for questions/answers, no computer tech to talk you through computer usage and no advisor for job seeking issues.  This is not an 'easy way out' type of learning experience.  It requires a tremendous amount of responsibility and accountability on the part of the student.  Know thyself.   There is no shame in acknowledging that you need the hands on attention of a classroom instructor.   ALL information needed to successfully pass this course is provided to you, however, you are expected to READ it, USE it, FOLLOW it.  You must be capable of pacing yourself and monitoring your own progress.  If you cannot set aside time each week to do the work, you cannot successfully complete this course.  Every single person who has failed the theory portion of this course did so because they failed to finish it on time.

How the course works:  You begin coursework as soon as your payment clears.  The day materials are emailed to you is  the day that your 'six month' completion clock starts ticking.  We will send you all information needed to pass the theory portion of the course via email.    ALL communication is done via email or fax.

What we expect from you:

Computer skills:  You HAVE TO be able to use the computer to do more than just surf the internet.  You must have an active email account which is enabled to receive attachments and access to the internet and you must be adept at using it.    You must be able to open and view attachments in Microsoft Word and in PowerPoint.  You must know how to disable popup blockers, convert files from one format to another, be able to type web addresses into a browser, and copy and paste content into an email. So, if you want the option of 'self study online'..............You must have these skills BEFORE you enroll.    Local libraries and adult learning centers offer all types of computer courses.  Take one if you need to before you enroll.   It is probably not a good idea to run out and buy your first computer and attempt to learn it while doing this course.   All course content is given to you and sent via email attachment.  We do not and will not mail coursework (that costs money which then raises the cost of the course).  You may print the material for your own use.

This course is offered in English and you must be able to read and write in English to complete the course.  You are expected to know how to do college level work and use your professional judgment for topics etc.   We expect that you use professional language and grammar in communications with us.  PLEASE use spell check, even in your emails.  (We have received a significant amount of emails that were so misspelled and fragmented that we were unable to understand it).  Please note:  while email use is common in today's workplace, you are still expected to use sentence structure, capital letters, etc in professional communications.   Paper writing and careplans are part of the course.  Any traditional format is acceptable.  You may use resources from your college days or the local library, or online.  Coursework is self explanatory.  Professional nurses are expected to problem solve.  You may use your professional judgment for topics, etc.

CLINICAL PLACEMENT:   The clinical portion of this course is a precepted clinical in an area where you live.  It is your responsibility to find a clinical preceptor.  We will gladly let you know of preceptors in your area, if you ask.  We will also offer you ideas of where to look.  We will walk you through the process and give you all the paperwork needed, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to find the preceptor.  You must approach the Education Director of the facility for permission not the nurse recruiter.   DO NOT wait until you finish theory to start to find a preceptor.  You cannot do clinical in a facility without a legal contract in place.  It can take the legal department in some hospitals MONTHS to review a contract and get it returned to us.  That means that your temporary license could expire or your time remaining in the course could expire which is a failure of the course.  You should start thinking of desired clinical placements and begin now to find a first and second choice.  Sometimes, due to unforeseen events, a facility cannot take you even though they had been willing initially.  Life happens, we roll with it and adjust.  We have never in the three year history of this particular nationwide course had a student not find a preceptor when the process was begun in a timely fashion.

Any legal, disciplinary, health or other unusual issues which may impact your practice or re-licensure should be discussed with the Board prior to enrolling in the course.  We CANNOT advise you about issues with your license.  The BON in each state determines what their renewal laws are.  We simply provide a course that meets their requirements to assist you in fulfilling that state's legal requirement.  We cannot talk to the BON for you, advise you, give you a waiver etc when it comes to your license.

You can enroll for this course via the internet.  You are encouraged to view the Student Handbook for more detailed information about the course before enrolling.  We will not answer questions/emails about issues that are addressed in the handbook.  We will clarify them if you are unclear on something.

Every state has its own requirements for reactivation or refresher courses.  The theory portion of this course is 120 hours and does not change even if your state only requires 40 hours of theory.   Some Boards will accept courses approved by other states, some prefer to approve all courses themselves.  You may link to the List of Accepting States for this course.  It is the individual nurse's responsibility to ensure that he/she is eligible for reinstatement in that particular state.  Clinical is 180 hours unless your BON has a specific minimum number in their refresher policy.  The policy will specifically state that the refresher will complete ___ number of clinical hours.

*If you want to reactivate your license in the state that is NOT the last state in which you held active licensure, you MUST call the BON in your home state and discuss the procedure for reactivation.  Many states do not reactivate a lapsed license from another state.  They require you to sit for NCLEX.   NCLEX review courses are designed for new grads.  We do have a significant number of nurses who take the theory portion of the refresher course and then sit for NCLEX.  It is your responsibility to talk to your state BON.

Cost of the didactic portion of the course is $650.  You will receive a certificate of completion awarding 120 contact hours of continuing education.

Cost of clinical is $150.

You can use Paypal at enrollment.    If you elect to pay by check, we will wait until your check clears the bank (about 5 business days) before we email your coursework.
