All courses are approved for nurses and other licensed healthcare providers.  Where additional approvals are obtained, they are noted. 

If you must enroll to take a multi-modular course, please consider that our business hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm EST.  We are closed on Federal holidays.  

We do not offer payment plans or partial payment programs.  The extra accounting required would require us to raise our prices.  To date, there is no scholarship money offered for refresher students or those taking pharmacology to challenge the LVN exam.

Course Descriptions

Abuse:  This course is intended for any who work in the healthcare fields and come in contact with victims of abuse; domestic, child, sexual or elder.  Signs and symptoms, interventions, long term effects and reporting are discussed.  2.0 contact hours $19.95  **You must have Microsoft PowerPoint capabilities to view this course.

Adult Education, Principles of:  This course is designed for mentors, preceptors, presenters, and anyone who will be educating the working adult.  Characteristics of the adult learner, methods to maximize attention and retention, and recognizing previous educational background are discussed.  Tips on course construction and delivery are presented.  Suggestions for dealing with difficult and disruptive learners are discussed.  3.0 contact hours.  $29.95

Alternative and Complimentary Therapies:  This course is designed to educate the healthcare practitioner on the various alternative and complimentary methods commonly used by patients.  The advantages, disadvantages and dangers are discussed.  Interview techniques and patient teaching are reviewed.  Discussion of legal labeling requirements and FDA regulations are also covered.  3.0 contact hours.  $29.95

Alzheimer's and Dementia:  This course focuses on the issues surrounding dementia and Alzheimer’s.  Symptoms, diagnosis, interventions, and family issues are discussed.   3.0 contact hours   $29.95.

Assessing Infants and Children:  This course is designed for the nurse who works primarily in the adult settings.  This course assumes a working knowledge of adult assessment and covers the differences between adults and children.  Abuse, neglect, and legal issues are also discussed.  Home health nurses, emergency room and clinic nurses or nurses wishing to move to a pediatric setting will benefit.  3.0 contact hours.   $29.95

Blood Borne Pathogens:  This course is for practicing nurses and those employed in areas where exposure to bloodborne pathogens may occur.  This course focuses on the most common bloodborne pathogens, transmission, and prevention.  Also discussed are steps to take if an exposure occurs.  1.0 contact hour.  $3.95

The Diabetic Athlete:  This course is designed for health professionals who work with or provide educational services to those with diabetes who wish to, or already participate in athletic activities.  Types of diabetes, insulin, oral medications, insulin pumps, use of glucagon are discussed.  Also covered are signs and symptoms of hypo/hyperglycemia, hydration, dietary considerations, assessment and treatment of complications of diabetes.   4.0 contact hours  $39.95  Approved for Athletic Trainers

Documentation:  This course addresses the many issues surrounding documentation.  The various forms of documentation used in the healthcare professions, the purpose of record keeping and the legal issues surrounding those records.  Use of records for billing, quality assurance, and research are discussed.  3.0 contact hours  $29.95

Drug Use in Pregnancy:  Licit and Illicit:  This course discusses the use of legal and illegal substances during pregnancy from conception to post partum.  This course reviews the drugs most commonly used during pregnancy, the role of the healthcare provider in identifying drug use, complications of both mother and baby, and management and treatment options.  3.0 contact hours  $29.95 :   Pharmacology component 1.0 contact hours; non-pharmacology component 2.0 contact hours.

Ethics in the Health Professions:  This course is designed for those in the healthcare professions.  The ethical issues that are unique to healthcare are explored.  Dimensions of professional ethics in practice, adhering to personal beliefs, and advocating for the patient are discussed.  3.0 contact hours  $29.95

HIV for unlicensed providers:  This course is designed for unlicensed personnel or those with a license in a discipline that does not include giving medications.  The virus, modes of transmissions, methods of prevention and psychosocial issues are discussed.   **You must have Microsoft PowerPoint capabilities to view this course. 3.0 contact hours.  $29.95

HIV and AIDS:  This course is designed for licensed providers with a need for more in depth knowledge of anti-viral medications, side effects, interactions and prescribing information.   This course discusses Protease Inhibitors, NRTI’s, NNRTI’s, Entry Inhibitors, and new research.  The use of alternative therapies is discussed as well as any benefits, dangers or interactions with conventional therapies.  5.0 contact hours, total.   For Nurse Practitioners; 4.0 contact hours of pharmacology component and 1.0 contact hour of non-pharmacology are awarded.  $49.95   **You must have Microsoft PowerPoint capabilities to view this course.

Infection Control and Safety:  This course describes issues relating to contact, spread of and prevention of infection in healthcare settings.  Also discussed are biohazards, terrorism, natural disasters, personal safety and use of restraints.  2.0 contact hours $19.95

Interpersonal Skills:  are you helping or hurting?  This course is designed as a self discovery of how one’s interpersonal skills reflect, not only on those around us, but on ourselves.  Communication style, both how one communicates to others, and how one receives communication are discussed.  Assertiveness, ability to work as a team member, and accepting responsibility are also considered.  Conflict resolution, manipulation, and sabotage and the effect on one’s career and co-worker’s are examined.  3.0 contact hours.  $29.95

IV therapy:  Principles, Practice and Complications: This course is designed for the nurse who has infrequent or minimal exposure to intravenous therapy devices.  General principles, practice methods, types of fluids and complications are discussed.  Insertion and removal techniques, as well as central line devices are also covered.  Those working in extended care facilities, office practices, or other similar settings will benefit.  Some institutions allow this course to be used as the didactic portion of an IV certification course, or as a yearly review for IV therapy staff.  It is the learner's responsibility to verify that this course is approved for certification or recertification by the institution prior to taking the course, and to arrange any clinical requirements.  3.0 contact hours.  $29.95

Leadership and Management Skills:   This course describes the differences between leadership and management.  Development of skills for each are discussed.  Motivational methods and styles of leadership and management are reviewed.  Delegation of tasks to other licensed and unlicensed personnel is discussed.  1.0 contact hour.  $9.95

Medication Administration Review and Updates:  This course is a review of basic medication administration.  New techniques are discussed.  Methods of administration, nursing responsibility, the 5 R's, error prevention, IV fluid, and Nurse Practice Act are discussed.  It is designed for the nurse who has been out of the clinical setting for a long period of time, or for the nurse who has made multiple medication errors.   It is not a pharmacology course  4.0 contact hours.   $39.95

Mental Health Issues in the Pediatric Population:  This course is designed for those that work with the pediatric population (those under 21 years of age).  Nurses, school personnel, coaches, trainers, and others will benefit.  Types of issues discussed:  psychiatric diseases, mental disorders, learning disabilities, abuses, parenting issues and dealing with parents.  Signs and symptoms, recognition, documentation and reporting are also covered.  Discussion of medications used and their side effects are included.  Types of parenting skills and the effects on children are also discussed.   5.0 contact hours; 2.0 contact hours of pharmacology.   $39.95

Nurse Refresher Course:     Self study course is available.  This course is designed for registered nurses who must take a refresher course to reactivate a license.  It is NOT for initial licensure.  Practical or vocational nurses are allowed to enroll, however, please check with your Board of Nursing to ensure acceptance.  Every state varies in its didactic and clinical requirements for re-instatement.  Even if  your state/territory does not  require refresher for re- licensure, responsibility and liability for practice lies with the nurse.  Comprehensive review minimizes your risk.  It is the nurse's responsibility to ensure eligibility for re-licensure/reinstatement.  We cannot contact the Board on your behalf.   Prior disciplinary issues do not preclude you from taking this course.  We will assist you to meet the goals the Board has set for you to have your license reinstated.  This course is the maximal hours of review (120 hours).  It is 120 contact hours.  $650.00 for didactic portion.  No texts are required.  Additional fees of $150.00  apply if clinical is required.   Clinical activities will be with a preceptor in the nurse's home state per that state's BON guidelines.  Please read the Nurse Refresher Policy before emailing us with questions.  We cannot answer emails requesting information already  made available.   Nurse Refresher Enrollment Form    

Pediatric Cardiology:  This course is for beginning pediatric nurses or for adult cardiac nurses who may encounter a patient with a congenital defect.  This course assumes a working knowledge of normal adult cardiac anatomy, and basic familiarity with cardiac rhythms and monitoring.  Types of defects, presenting symptoms and common surgical repairs are reviewed.  Also discussed are common cardiac illnesses in the pediatric population and appropriate interactions with family.  5.0 contact hours   $39.95 Pharmacology component 1.0 contact hour; non-pharmacology component 4.0 contact hours.

Pediatric Dehydration:  This course is designed for the practicing nurse who works with pediatric patients. Beginning pediatric nurses, emergency nurses, clinic nurses will benefit from the content. This course focuses on the physiological differences in the pediatric patient, which make the infant and child more susceptible to dehydration than the adult patient. Also covered are family dynamics, interviewing techniques, and rehydration formulas for the infant and child. 3.0 contact hours  $19.95  Pharmacology component 1.0 contact hours;  non-pharmacology component 2.0 contact hours.

 

Pharmacology Course:  This is an 80 hour course designed for those in the state of California who wish to take the LVN exam by 'experience'.  There is no clinical with this course.  This course meets all of the criteria dictated by the California LVN Board.   There are no textbooks required for this course, but we do advise you to purchase a Nursing Drug Book for use in practice.   Please read the Course Policy  and the Course Overview before emailing for enrollment.  This is a self study program.  There is no instructor available for regular contact.  We cannot answer emails requesting information already posted online.   It is the student's responsibility to ensure eligibility for the LVN exam.  We cannot talk to the Board on your behalf or advise you on if your experience qualifies you to take the exam.  This course has also been taken by practical nurses who wish a review of pharmacology and medication administration or for those who have had disciplinary issues  If you wish to enroll, you may fill out the enrollment form.  Course cost is $275.00

 

Public Health:  Threats from natural disasters:  This course is designed as a review of disease entities that are common and prevalent in areas with overcrowding and poor sanitation.  Also discussed are the psychosocial aspects frequently occurring amongst the victims of a natural disaster.  Registered nurses, emergency workers, and other allied health professionals will benefit from this course.  3.0 contact hour   $29.95

Quality Improvement:  This course is intended for those in the healthcare field who have a need to understand the Quality Improvement process.  Definitions and process are discussed.  Steps to developing a quality improvement program are reviewed. 2.0  Contact hours     $19.95
