Course Outline

This is the general overview of the course.  An in-depth course outline will be given to you when you enroll.  You are expected to follow the outline given to you with the course.  The times in parenthesis are the average time it takes most individuals to complete each section.  You may take more or less depending on your past experiences, your study habits, and what else is going on in your study environment (kids, pets, housework, another job, etc).

I.          Effective and Safe Nursing Care, The Nursing Environment         (16 hours)

II.        Nursing Concepts and Process                                                          (24 hours)

**This section includes the medication administration review.   You must pass the medication module with a minimum of an 85% to pass the course.    We do not make you calculate drip rates for IV's as that is no longer standard practice to hang meds without an IV pump.   We DO allow you to use a calculator.   The goal for safe mediation administration is that you live and breathe the five R's, KNOW what you are giving, and why, and be able to set up the problem for the drug calculation and arrive at a correct answer.   You will take a calculator to work with you, so we let you use one for the module.

III.       Health Promotion and Maintenance                                     (16 hours)

IV.     Alterations in Health and Wellness                                     (48 hours)

**This is broken down by systems.  Drugs are taught by classifications and broken down as they fit into the systems.  Obviously, some are not exclusive to one system, and are placed where they seem to 'fit' and not overload a particular module.

V.        Alterations in Psychosocial Integrity                                    (16 hours)

The final is cumulative and very similar to how the new state board exam is set up.  If you will be taking the NCLEX (state board exam) after this course, please read this:    NCLEX
