OPEN ENROLLMENT POLICY
Unlike other courses, we do not prohibit enrollment due to the number of inactive years of nursing practice. Our philosophy is that you are an adult professional and if after reading all the material presented here, believe you can accomplish this course, it is our belief that you should be able to do that. The state licensing you is the only authority allowed to determine if you are fit for licensure. We allow anyone licensed or unlicensed to take the theory part of the course. If you are intending to reactivate a license and are eligible to do so through your state, we allow you to take this course***.
Enrollment for this course is year round. You may start when your payment clears.
Many of you have been inactive for a long time. Reasons for inactivity vary and the nurse's activities in that time period vary also. The chances for successfully passing this course are greater if:
you have five or more years of full time active nursing experience in a hospital setting prior to becoming inactive.
you have been inactive for less than 10 years
you were not a borderline student in nursing school. Borderline means you were always struggling to make the bare minimum pass on a test and were always worried about getting that one point needed to pass.
you are not working or only working very part-time
you do not have young children at home or are caring for a sick family member
you are not going through a personal crisis which will cause added stress at this time (divorce, spouse loss of job, death in family etc)
you have the computer skills recommended on this site.
you are prepared to study at least 4-8 hours a week, every week over the next six months.
you have sufficient resources to sustain your living expenses while you do the required clinical (if applicable to you).
you can read and write English at the college level, meaning you have taken college level courses and are experienced with college style writing. This includes the ability to review literature and make a comparison or critique of that review. If you never had at least English 101/102, it is strongly suggested that you take that course or review the content.
We have had nurses who have been out of practice longer than 20 years pass this course. We have had nurses with only labor and delivery experience or other specialized areas of experience pass this course. We have had women going through divorces, with numerous young children, people diagnosed with cancer, lose a grandchild, and suffer countless other personal tragedies while taking this course, manage to pass.
It is strictly up to you. Sometimes, we just do what we have to do. Some people with difficult circumstances do not pass the first time, but do successfully complete the second try.
***We do reserve the right to decline admission to those with disciplinary issues if we feel that we cannot meet the requirements of your consent order. We require that ALL disciplinary issues be disclosed to us prior to enrollment. That includes not only Board orders, but drug/alcohol issues, all felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions (excluding traffic tickets), complaints by employers/consumers, informal hearings with the Board, pre-hearing and investigative stages, and if your attorney is suggesting you take the course to offer you a 'leg up' prior to your Board hearing. ALL of that information is required to be fully disclosed to us prior to enrollment and would have to be disclosed to any clinical facility. Failure to disclose always results in failure of the course, and usually the clinical facility pursues legal action against you. You may take theory and receive the contact hours, but due to the liability issues involved we WILL NOT place you in a clinical setting.
We also reserve the right to deny admission to anyone whom we deem to be abusive, harassing, incendiary, or otherwise inappropriate in their communications with us or to deny re-admission after a failure/withdrawal.
