Pharmacology Course for California LVN Candidates

Policy and Procedure

 

 Purpose:         To establish guidelines for the creation, management, and delivery of the self study Pharmacology Course, in accordance with California State Board of Vocational Nursing guidelines.  This course is designed for California residents seeking to take the LVN exam by the ‘experience’ qualification who need a pharmacology course.   This course is not marketed for any other purpose.  If you are an LVN with a disciplinary issue and need to take a medication or pharmacology course as part of a consent order, check with your Board of Nursing (BON) to ensure acceptance.  This policy is provided to all Boards of Nursing when approval is sought or when the policy is amended and to all students prior to enrollment and again at time of enrollment in the course.   

 1.         All material, including didactic, exercises, quizzes, and exams is reviewed annually by a Master’s prepared nurse educator for accuracy, appropriateness, currency and completeness.  All changes to the course curriculum are made under the direction of a Master’s prepared nurse. All Board of Nursing (BON) criterion is reviewed annually for compliance.   

2.         It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that this course is accepted by the BON and to ensure that all BON requirements are fulfilled for eligibility to take NCLEX-PN.  The company cannot speak to the BON on behalf of a student nor give advice as to whether any student courses meet licensing criteria.   

3.         Consolidated Learning Services does not provide clinical portions of the course, nor do we recommend clinical preceptors or facilities.   

4.         Students may enroll at any time and begin course work as soon as it is received.  Students may progress at their own pace provided the course is completed in its entirety within six months of enrollment.   

5.         No coursework will be sent until all payment has been received and honored.   

6.         The student must be capable of functioning in a self study environment.  The course and student progress are monitored by an RN.  However, there is no instructor available to answer emails or questions.

7.         This company has a strict no refund policy.    

8.         Operating hours are 09:00 am to 5:00 pm EST; Monday through Friday, closed on weekends and Federal holidays.  

9.         It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he/she is comfortable using a personal computer, including opening and viewing attachments in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word, accessing internet sites, using email capabilities, and Word processing equipment.  Our software is compatible with the following operating systems and browsers: Windows 2000 or higher, Linux, UNIX, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari.  Consolidated Learning Services is not responsible for incompatibilities or damage to the student’s software/system.  We do not guarantee proper viewing of our programs in any other than the software systems listed above.  We provide technical support only on issues related to our software/site.  We are not able to provide technical support for any other issue.   

10.       Coursework is sent by email attachment.  Assignments are to be received via same.  Coursework may be printed by the student or downloaded to a personal computer for use by the student only and only for the duration of the course.  Any other use or copying of material is prohibited and subject to copyright law. 

11.       This course is given in English at the level of proficiency expected of a student at a practical nursing level.  Coursework, including math skills are at the level expected of a high school graduate.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure that he/she has an adequate comprehension of the written English language and understanding of basic mathematical computations.  

12.       Students are given an opportunity to evaluate the course and provide comments.  Students are kindly requested to refrain from sending comments, personal stories, etc at other times. 

13.       Students are expected to use the email address given for sending course-related assignments and correspondence ONLY.  Any student who forwards jokes, emails, chain letters, etc as part of a mass mailing, solicitation or other non-course related correspondence will be issued ONE email warning.  If the behavior continues, the student will be expelled from the course with no refund.  Notice will be forwarded to the BON.

14.       Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and courteous fashion.  This includes, but is not limited to: completing work on time, using proper grammar, sentence structure, etc in ALL correspondence to the school, refraining from using profanity or other unacceptable slang terminology unless quoted in context for a paper or other assignment, attempting to hack or otherwise jeopardize or destroy course material or website, cheating, plagiarism, misrepresentation, harassing of faculty, staff or students, and any other behaviors that may violate ethics or standards of the Board of Nursing.  It is the discretion of Consolidated Learning Services whether to issue ONE warning to the student, or expel the student from the program immediately.  Illegal conduct will be reported to the appropriate local authorities.   

15.       The course consists of a maximum of 290 points.  A minimum of 230 points are required for successful completion.  All quizzes and exams must be passed with a minimum grade of 80%.  There is a one hour time limit on quizzes/tests.  All questions are from the course material given to the student.  Questions may measure critical thinking as it applies to medication administration; however, there are no ‘trick’ questions.  In the rare event that a student would fail a test or quiz, he/she is instructed to email the course monitor for a link to take an alternate exam.  A maximum of one alternative exam will be given for a failed test/quiz.  If the second exam is passed, the average of the two grades will be computed and recorded.  The average of the two quizzes/tests must equal 80% or the student is considered to have failed the test/quiz.    Throughout the course, a student may have only two ‘retake’ situations.   

16.       Students have the ability to print a copy of their passing grades on tests and quizzes, if desired.     

27.       At course completion, the student will be mailed a formal certificate including the student’s full name, date of completion and statement that the course was completed with a minimum passing grade of 80%.  The only grade issued is a pass/fail grade.
